Fountain Hills to Prescott Shuttle

Check Rates

Travelers leaving the red‑rock neighborhoods of Fountain Hills — whether near the Fountain Hills Village Center, along Shea Boulevard, or beside the McDowell Mountain foothills — can step directly into a private sedan or SUV that heads north on Interstate 17. The route climbs out of the Sonoran Desert, passes the Verde Valley, and merges onto State Route 69 for the final stretch into Prescott’s historic downtown and the Prescott Regional Airport area. The straight‑line distance is roughly 77 miles; road mileage is a bit longer, and typical door‑to‑door drive time ranges from 105 to 144 minutes depending on traffic and weather conditions.

Because the service is door‑to‑door, the driver meets you at the exact address you provide in Fountain Hills and delivers you to the precise location you need in Prescott — be it a hotel on Whiskey Row, a business park near the airport, or a private residence in the pine‑covered hills. The vehicles are equipped for desert heat and mountain elevation changes, and the drivers are familiar with the I‑17 to SR‑69 corridor, including the occasional construction zones near Cordes Junction and the winding approaches to Prescott’s elevation of 5,300 feet.

For passengers connecting to flights at Phoenix Sky Harbor, the shuttle can be scheduled to align with your departure or arrival window. The team tracks commercial flight status in real time, so if a flight is delayed or arrives early, the pickup time is adjusted automatically. Luggage is loaded and secured in the vehicle’s cargo area; there are no preset limits, but oversized items such as bicycles or large sports equipment should be mentioned when booking so the appropriate vehicle can be assigned.

How long does the trip usually take?

The drive typically lasts between 1 hour 45 minutes and 2 hours 24 minutes, varying with traffic on I‑17 and weather on SR‑69.

Check Rates

Whether you’re planning a day trip or a weekend getaway, the journey from Fountain Hills to Prescott offers a blend of desert scenery, mountain vistas, and a taste of Arizona’s frontier history. The route stretches roughly 55‑60 miles (≈90‑100 km) and can be completed in about 1½ to 2½ hours, depending on traffic and the path you choose. Below you’ll find a practical breakdown of travel options, key landmarks, and tips to make the most of your drive.

Driving: Your Car, Your Schedule

For many travelers, the freedom of a personal vehicle is the quickest way to cover the distance from Fountain Hills to Prescott. Two primary corridors are commonly used:

Route 1 – I‑17 North to US‑60 West

Start by heading north on I‑17 from the Phoenix metropolitan area. After about 25 miles, take Exit 285 for US‑60 (Grand Avenue) heading west toward Wickenburg. Continue on US‑60 for roughly 30 miles, then turn north onto SR‑89A to enter Prescott. This route is the most direct, generally taking 1½ to 2 hours under normal traffic conditions. It also provides easy access to the town of Wickenburg, where you can pause for a coffee or a quick historic tour of the Sahara Room or the Mina Stewart Museum.

Route 2 – SR‑87 (Beeline Highway) Through Payson

If you prefer a more scenic drive, take SR‑87 north from Mesa. The highway climbs through the Mogollon Rim, offering sweeping views of pine forests and the occasional wildlife sighting. After about 70 miles, you’ll merge onto US‑60 near the village of Pine. From there, follow US‑60 west to Prescott. Although this detour adds roughly 15‑20 miles and an extra 30‑45 minutes, many travelers find the mountain air and panoramic stops worthwhile.

What to Expect on the Road

  • Traffic: Weekday mornings see heavier congestion around the I‑17/I‑10 interchange. Weekends, especially Saturday morning, tend to be smoother.
  • Road Conditions: I‑17 and US‑60 are well‑maintained, but the higher elevations of SR‑87 can experience occasional rock slides after heavy rains. Check the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) road report before you leave.
  • Fuel Stops: Gas stations are plentiful in Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Wickenburg. Street parking is free on weekends but fills quickly during events.
