Our Daily Schedule

What is your daily schedule?

We pick you up on your schedule 24/7. Our professional shuttle drivers are normally 5-10 minutes early at your home, or right on time at PHX. You get to pick the time we pick you up.

What is my pickup time at the airport?

We normally pick you up 30 minutes after your plane lands in Phoenix for domestic flights, or 45 minutes after for international flights.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Pickup times automatically adjust to 30 minutes after you land in Phoenix if your flight is delayed for domestic flights, or 45 minutes after you land for international flights.

What happens if my flight arrives early?

Call or send us a text if you want us to pick you up early, and we will let your shuttle driver know that you are ready to be picked up. Otherwise, we will pick you up at the scheduled time on your reservation.

How soon should I make a reservation?

Although there is no set rule that prevents you from booking a Phoenix to Sun City Shuttle last minute, it's a good idea to make your reservation as soon as possible to make sure a driver is available and prevent any delays. Heading there from Sun City? See our Youngtown shuttle service page for direct service.

How long does it take to go from Phoenix or Sun City?

Trips to and from Sun City and Phoenix in normal traffic are about 30 minutes versus an hour on the bus or a shuttle with a bunch of people. Rush hour in Phoenix will normally add 15-45 minutes (30 minutes on the average).

What time should I be picked up?

Trips to Sun City are normally 40 minutes. 2-2.5 hours before your flight is normally enough time if you are going to PHX. Sky Harbor recommends you to be there 2 hours early to get through security and to your plane. Boarding usually starts 30 minutes before your plane takes off. However, one hour and thirty minutes is normally enough time. So if the drive from Sun City to Phoenix takes about 30 minutes, then 2 hours before your flight takes off is normally good.

Our Better Drivers

Who are your drivers?

Most of our shuttle drivers have been driving professionally with the public for more than 10 years. They have excellent people skills and are usually very knowledgeable about the area (what to do, best restaurants, history and attractions). Some of our drivers are also professional tour guides that go to the Grand Canyon and many other destinations.

We have high standards for our shuttle drivers including safety, reliability and customer service. They are very helpful with bags. They get the door for you. All drivers go through extensive background checks with PHX in order to pick up passengers.

We also train them by driving them through Sky Harbor, explaining all the rules, and showing them where to pick people up and drop people off.

Driving from Phoenix to Sun City: Route Overview

If you’re traveling from downtown Phoenix (ZIP 85003) to Sun City (ZIP 85351), the most direct drive follows US‑60 West, also known as Grand Avenue. According to MapQuest route planning, the shortest option covers approximately 16 miles and takes about 26 minutes in normal traffic (source: MapQuest). The route leaves Phoenix heading west on Washington Street, quickly merging onto US‑60, and then continues straight into Sun City’s main arterial roads.

Travelers should be aware that US‑60 can become congested during morning and late‑afternoon rush periods. The highway passes through several neighborhoods, including the Maryvale area, before reaching the Sun City limits near the intersection of Bell Road and Grand Avenue. For those heading to Sun City West, an additional 4–5 miles on the same highway adds roughly 10–15 minutes to the trip, bringing the total distance to about 20 miles (source: distance‑cities.com).

Because the route is straightforward, it’s a popular choice for both drivers and shuttle services. However, traffic conditions can vary significantly depending on the time of day and any incidents on the highway.

Alternate Routes: I‑10, US‑60, and AZ‑101

While US‑60 is the quickest route in most conditions, there are a few alternatives that may suit different preferences or避开了拥堵的路段:

  • I‑10 West → US‑60 West: From downtown Phoenix, take I‑10 westbound for about 8 miles, then transition onto US‑60 near the Papago Buttes area. This option can be advantageous if there is heavy traffic on the northern portion of US‑60.
  • I‑10 West → AZ‑101 North → US‑60 West: This loop adds about 5 extra miles but often provides a smoother ride during peak hours. AZ‑101 (the Agua Fria Freeway) runs north‑south and connects with US‑60 at the Bell Road interchange.
  • Local Streets (Washington St → Grand Ave): For a scenic, slower pace, some drivers prefer staying on surface streets west of downtown, passing landmarks such as Papago Park and the Desert Botanical Garden. This route can be longer in terms of distance but may reduce freeway congestion.

All three options are viable; the best choice depends on real‑time traffic data and personal preference. Shuttle services like Airport Shuttle of Phoenix monitor these routes continuously to ensure the most efficient path for their customers.

Travel Options Compared: Driving vs. Shuttle vs. Rideshare

Choosing the right mode of transportation depends on factors like cost, convenience, and schedule flexibility. Below is a quick comparison of the most common options for the Phoenix‑to‑Sun City corridor.

Option Estimated Travel Time Typical Cost Estimate* Convenience Best For
Personal Vehicle 26–45 min (traffic dependent) Fuel + parking (~$5‑$15 at some venues) Full control of schedule; no reservations needed Travelers with a car who prefer independence
Airport Shuttle (Airport Shuttle of Phoenix) 30 min normal; 40 min to Sun City West Quote‑based (often comparable to rideshare) Door‑to‑door; professional drivers; 24/7 availability; flight‑delay adjustments Groups, seniors, or anyone seeking a stress‑free ride
Rideshare (e.g., Uber, Lyft) 30–50 min (surge pricing possible) Variable; can be higher during peak hours Quick booking via app; driver may need to navigate traffic Last‑minute trips; solo travelers comfortable with app‑based service
Taxi Service 30–55 min Generally higher than rideshare Traditional cab; may not offer real‑time flight tracking Travelers who prefer cash payment or no smartphone

*Cost estimates are general and can vary based on distance, time of day, and service provider. For a precise quote, contact the shuttle or rideshare service directly.

What to Expect on the Road: Traffic Patterns and Peak Hours

Phoenix’s traffic follows a typical pattern: morning commuters head east toward the downtown core between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM, while the evening rush runs westbound between 4:30 PM and 6:30 PM. During these windows, the US‑60 corridor can slow to a crawl, adding anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes to the usual 26‑minute trip (source: Airport Shuttle of Phoenix).

If you’re planning a trip to Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), allow extra time. The shuttle service recommends budgeting 2 hours before your flight’s departure to account for potential traffic delays and the airline’s suggested 2‑hour early‑arrival window. Boarding typically begins 30 minutes before departure, and the shuttle’s drivers are trained to adjust pickup times automatically for delayed flights.

For non‑airport trips, midday travel (between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM) generally offers the smoothest flow, with travel times close to the baseline 26‑minute estimate. Weekend traffic is lighter, especially before noon, making it an ideal window for leisurely visits to Sun City’s golf courses and community centers.

Your Sun City Shuttle picks up where it says Prearranged. If you are in a wheelchair, do not allow your attendant to leave you anywhere except Prearranged. The signs are easy to see and they are always at the outer curb. Sometimes security will send people to the wrong place, so it's better to follow the directions below. PHX also won't allow drivers to walk more than 15 feet away from their vehicle or wait, so good communication is essential. Turn on your cell phone and take it off of airplane mode, so your driver can call or text you. If you don't recognize the number, it's probably your driver.

Terminal 3 Prearranged is across the crosswalk from Door 6 and to the right, south side of the building.

Things You Should Know

Does it make sense to take an Uber or Lyft?

Uber and Lyft drivers often cancel once they arrive at your house, because the app doesn't tell them where they are going until they arrive at your home. Usually they don't want to drive that far and not get paid for two hours to drive back, or they are unavailable to work for that long. This may result in you missing your flight after 2-3 of them cancel in a row, and they charge you $5 each time for the cancellation. You then try to contact Uber or Lyft over the next week to get a refund, and they don't even have a phone number.

Another thing to consider is that Uber and Lyft drivers are never interviewed, so you may get a depressed guy complaining about his life, a tiny car with no leg room or a creeper. Uber and Lyft also do not train their drivers and Sky Harbor is moderately confusing to most people, so they usually have no idea where to go.

How reliable is the Greyhound bus or an Arizona shuttle with a lot of people?

Other shuttle companies that do shared rides will try to pick you up an hour or two earlier, but they make no promises about when you will actually get to Sky Harbor. If you're on a tight schedule, the shared ride option with Arizona shuttle or the Greyhound is probably not a good idea. Extra stops and scheduling with other passengers can either make you too early or potentially late. Even with great drivers, passengers can be unpredictable and end up making everyone miss their flight.

Sun City is a residential area in Arizona based in West Phoenix. Sun City Shuttle can service all your driving needs from and to anywhere in Arizona! Call to make your reservation.

The distance between Phoenix and Sun City AZ is 22.3 miles, which is approximately a 45 minute drive.
