Lava River Cave is a cave of approximately 0.75 miles long and is known as the longest cave of its kind. It was discovered in 1915 by some lumberman. Geologists believe the cave was formed between 6,50,000 and 7,00,000 years ago. The top, sides, and bottom have hardened, and the mid has flowed out, creating the hollow cave. The temperature inside the cave is between 30 to 40.
Volcanoes are formed by folding, faulting, uplifting, and erosion of the Earth's crust. Molten rock below the surface of the Earth that rises in volcanic vents is known as magma, but after it erupts from a volcano, it is called lava.
The cracks formed beneath the volcano connect one or more linked storage areas of magma or lava. Magma is made of molten rock, crystals, and dissolved gas—imagine an unopened soda bottle with sand grains inside. The molten rock is made of the chemicals oxygen, silicon, aluminum, iron, magnesium, calcium, sodium, potassium, titanium, and manganese.
There are many shreds of evidence of how the tube was born. The stones are sharp and slippery, and it's recommended to wear warm clothes and carry a source of light. The best time to visit is during the summer. You must see them for their scenic drive, cool cave, lava flow, and wildlife viewing. No pets and dogs are allowed.
The unusual part of this cave is the sand garden which you will come across about 3,000 feet from the entrance. The opening is covered with sand, and the sand is fine volcanic ash from the erosion of mount Mazama around 6,600 years ago. The sand slides through the cracks and gets deposited on the cave's floor. The constant water flow has formed a steeple and apex in the sand. As the formation of these fantastic structures takes decades, the forest service has fenced off the garden area to protect it. The trail floor gets sandy beyond 2,211 feet. The ceiling keeps descending along the trail. Exploring that section of the cave requires crawling on hands and knees for much distance to the end.
